While You Are Here

So, what is it you want to accomplish while you are here? This may seem to be an odd question, but it is one worth asking. Most people see life as some sort of deserved right rather than a mission. No wonder they feel cheated by loss, suffering, and death. They ask, “What is in it for me?” rather than seeing life as a greater divine task to be accomplished.

In your teen years, you outline how you want YOUR life to go. What you miss is that it is not YOUR life. It is Life with your participation. True, you are part of the story, but you have to ask yourself why you are here. Surely there is more to life than just working and having a family. Those are important, but until you see at least some part of the bigger picture, you may miss the point of your individual existence.

You are part of the grand puzzle — not an anonymous face in the great crowd. Take you existence with some seriousness and then celebrate it. You will not pass this way again. Life is more than paying the bills. It is more than mere consumption. The limitations placed on it are there to make it interesting. Time is not something with which you can negotiate.

Once you grasp that you here for a purpose greater than yourself, you will notice a dignity that is attached to the process. You count! You matter! You may well be the connecting link between an eternal principle and a limited little world. Never underestimate what it is you do while you are here.
