When You Face The Impossible
I have always had a habit of overloading my schedule and taking on things a little beyond my abilities. If I had life to live over again, I would have done this even more. There are things I really enjoy about facing the impossible. One is that it tests my abilities; another is that it forces me to deal with anxiety. I guess you could say that it is the way that I constantly test my own faith — and always have.
Do not get me wrong. I have not been Stoic about this. No, I have been very verbal. That too is part of the test. A person sometimes has to hear themselves out loud to really connect with parts of the spirit that reaches for the stars, while still planted firmly on the earth.
There is never enough time, so you have to resort to strategy. There is never the perfect strategy, so you have to pray. There are never the adequate words for prayer, so you have to trust. That is when you hit the wall and smile. You do not fall off the earth. You can even fail at some of the tasks and goals — maybe even a lot of them. The point to life is not how high or fast one can climb but the view along the way.
You will never have enough money (even Solomon complained about this). The more you have, the more demands for it from others. It is easy to say “no” when the checkbook is empty. As long as there is a little in there, you have to decide again and again. It can wear you out. Being broke can present some interesting impossibilities too. Those are worth your time. Here is a hint: use your imagination and a whole lot of humor on your finances. Whatever you do, do not take it too seriously. No one takes any of it with them when this life is over. Truth be known: the only thing you take with you is what you gave away.
Welcome to the world of endless impossibilities. Enjoy them. There is nothing quite like them. If they do not bring a smile to your face, back up and start again.
