When “Celebrities” Die
I took a psychological test once that showed that I have no particular preference for people. In other words, I am no more concerned for the President of the United States than I am the village idiot (often one and the same). People are just people to me. To put it another way: I am totally unimpressed by others. I have a great respect for all others, but I am not wowed by anyone. They have a role in life to play. They are merely human. We are the ones that try to make them gods (huge mistake on our part).
They are not gods. They are people. They have an almost infinite variety of backgrounds and are called to the stage of life by a Force greater than humanity itself. I focus on the Caller. Hollywood needs gods because it has abandoned God. Apparently celebrity status sells better than Divinity. In Jesus’ words, “They have their reward” (which is merely money).
People live. People die. What is so newsworthy about that? Personally, I do not think popularity should earn a person a headline. I do not think that God has any more concern about a “celebrity” than anyone else in this town. “God is no respecter” of persons. We are all part of the creation. Creating an imaginary pyramid out of “greaters” and “lessers” is our hang-up.
Life and death. That is the story. Judgment follows. It does not matter what anyone really thinks of these people. It only matters what God thinks of them. I do not worship at that altar of fame. In my book, that is idolatry. I hope all people live quality lives. I hope they have found a way to console themselves in death and have prepared for an afterlife. To the surprise of earthly celebrities, “the first shall be last and the last shall be first.” Heaven sees things much differently than we do.
