Moments

Moments are but brief seconds that echo for a few minutes. Sometimes a single moment can set the mood for the whole day. Some moments change the course of your entire life. They seem to happen on their own — usually while you are busy doing something else. A feeling connects with an outer or inner symbol. It is a “chicken or egg” sort of thing. We do not know which actually comes first — the symbol or the feeling. Even memories are symbols. It is a mystery what spurs them into awareness.
Aromas work like the glimpse of a great work of art, or noticing something grand in nature — a sunset or an approaching storm. The sounds of children playing, a distant siren, or even the common sounds of your own home can serve as the doorway to that “balcony” moment of wonder. God put our noses on the front of our heads for a purpose. Second only to the eyes in awareness, is the olfactory sense of the many scents around us. Drive with the windows down once in a while. Even a whiff of the car that just passed you counts. How often has spent fuel and oil been part of your sensate life?
I seldom look for moments, but welcome them regardless. No, I am not some sort of feelings junkie. I have simply learned that perceptions come in moments, and that they carry unique kaleidoscopic possibilities. Somehow the soul works the forgotten in with the novel. Old and new alike go into the mix. The result is in the moment. It can range from annoying to ecstatic. It is important to pay attention to the full spectrum of possibilities.
Perhaps sometime today you will have a moment of total peace. Maybe you will have a realization or insight into something that has haunted you for years. There is the possibility that just for a moment all of life comes together for you. Do not be surprised if that moment follows the feeling that everything is falling apart. The ten thousandth time you do something or the first both hold the possibility of connectedness. Today may be a thousand moments all seemingly disparate, or it could be one long almost eternal awareness. There is no way to predict it.
Imagine never-ending moments, then set your priorities. You will be amazed by the difference in your life-quality.
