Grasping Faith Blessings Now

by Dale Andrews on September 10th, 2008

You wonder why you worried so much back a few years ago when you were taking exams or raising children. You wish now you had spent more energies focusing on the tasks instead of worrying about them. You even wish you could live those years over again knowing then what you know now.
Someday you will look back at today and wonder why you worried at all. That is the way life works. It is a test of faith. Faith is living today with a confident lightheartedness. You know you will look back at this day and wonder why you were so stressed, so why not just dump the stress altogether right now? That is faith. Knowing what you know of the patterns of life, it makes no sense to worry about today or tomorrow. Some days may have been painful, but they worked out.
This is the illusion we face: We somehow think or fear that today will be uniquely different — that gravity will suddenly stop working or the sun will go out. Maybe this is the day that I will not be able to handle everything. You know better, but you let these thoughts intimidate you all the same.
The blessings of faith have to do with grasping the fact that you will be able to look back a year from now or even a century or millennium from now and wonder why you worried. One day it dawns on you that life is indeed eternal. Yes, there will be trying times, but nothing comes to an end over them. You are not measured by doing everything “right” but by trusting God in each minute.
In the mean time, drop your fears. Stop your race against time. Ignore the security demands of your ego and just be for a while. Today is just another rotation of the earth. Work, wonder, play, sleep, eat — all have their place. Let them flow from one to the other with ease. Something magnificent is going on. Do not miss it over your fears.
